Beverley Callard admits Corrie producers "panicking like mad"

Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard admits that producers are worried about the prospect of the soap dropping off air this summer.

Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard has admitted that the show's execs are "panicking like mad" over the prospect of the soap dropping off air this summer.

Filming was brought to a halt last month due to the coronavirus pandemic and is not expected to resume for another month or two at the earliest.

ITV has cut the number of episodes from six a week to just three but as it stands, the long-running serial will go off air at the start of July once all recorded episodes have run out.

"They're panicking like mad aren't they? But, of course, you can't not," Callard told Radio 5 Live.

"Even if it does come to an end and we run out of episodes, the writers will be going mad, they'll be excited to create new storylines and everything. Because we've got a massive team of writers, so they'll keep it going."

Callard, who has played Liz McDonald since 1989, is due to leave the cobbles later this year after deciding to quit last November.
