Lord Sugar fires a fourth candidate from The Apprentice after a fish-themed task.

Alex Short has become the latest candidate to be fired by Lord Sugar on The Apprentice.

The news means that all four of the candidates fired so far this series are male, leaving seven females and four male candidates left in the process.

For the latest task, the two teams were asked to source a catch of the day in the English channel, then sell a bulk order to high-end restaurants and create a fish dish to sell to the public.

Alex - a 27-year-old owner of a commercial cleaning company - took on the project manager role for his team but made a succession of errors, most notably forgetting to sell the expensive crab to the restaurant.

The team also forgot to arrange a delivery time for the fish they did manage to sell, meaning that the restaurant missed out on lunch service and reduced the price accordingly.

For the fish dish, Akshay Thakrar was criticised for pushing ahead with a time-consuming crab arancini recipe - and the team also missed out on crucial revenue by not having side dishes to upsell to the consumers.

When the final numbers were tallied Francesca Kennedy Wallbank's team romped to victory with profit of £312.42, in part thanks to their quick and easy fish tacos dish, while Alex's team delivered a pitiful profit of £116.56.

Alex decided to bring back Ashkay and Kathryn Louise Burn into the boardroom but it was clear that Lord Sugar laid the blame squarely at the feet of the project manager.

Announcing his decision, he said: "This is the worst failure I've ever experienced in this boardroom.

"The target here was catch of the day. How can you forget? All I can say is, after your catch of the day - here is my dispatch of the day: Alex, you're fired."

The Apprentice continues next Thursday at 9pm on BBC One.
