Coronavirus reportedly scuppers plans for a trip abroad on the new series of The Apprentice.

The new series of The Apprentice will reportedly not feature a trip abroad due to the ongoing travel chaos resulting from coronavirus.

The long-running business reality show was cancelled in 2020 because of COVID, while filming of this year's series has been delayed until the autumn, with transmission not expected until early 2022.

According to The Sun, the complicated rules around travel in and out of the country mean that the annual task set abroad will now take place in a city somewhere in the UK instead.

"This is another hurdle the producers have had to jump as COVID-related restrictions are still in place," a source told the newspaper. "Although lockdown in Britain is easing, that's not the case in other countries. It's a real headache.

"Some of the show's most famous moments have seen the candidates thrown in at the deep end to complete tasks in places where they don't always speak English."

Past trips on the show have included South Africa, Malta, Morocco and New York.
