Jane McDonald says that she loves "being camp" and is determined to be a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race.

Jane McDonald has spoken about her love of the drag scene and has admitted that drag queens provide inspiration for her own aesthetic.

The gay icon, 59, shot to fame in the late '90s on the BBC docusoap The Cruise and has enhanced her camp status in recent years with a series of cruising travel shows for Channel 5.

Talking to Entertainment Daily this week, she shared: "I've always said, if I wasn't a woman, I'd be a man in drag. Absolutely.

"I love being camp. That's the whole thing! We're in showbusiness for goodness sake. I love to bring that campness to it – that's just how I am."

McDonald went on to declare herself a superfan of RuPaul's Drag Race, adding that she is determined to make a future appearance on the show as a guest judge.

"I think it's the best thing that's hit TV, because it's brought a complete new genre into our industry, which has been given the light it should have had for an awful long time," she said.

"I just love it and I get a lot of my hairstyles and makeup tips from the show and I look at the queens sometimes and think, oh my God, that's me."

McDonald's new series, Holidaying with Jane McDonald, launches next Friday at 9pm on Channel 5.
