Borussia Dortmund reach an agreement with Manchester United to re-sign Jadon Sancho on loan for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly given permission for Jadon Sancho to undergo a medical at Borussia Dortmund, with the attacker set to return to his former club on loan.

The Englishman initially represented Dortmund between 2017 and 2021, turning out for the club on 137 occasions in all competitions, scoring 50 goals and registering 64 assists in the process.

The attacker's excellent form led to Man United signing him in the summer of 2021, but a difficult spell at Old Trafford has seen him manage just 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances.

Sancho has only featured on three occasions for the Red Devils this term, meanwhile, due to a falling-out with head coach Erik ten Hag, and he is now preparing to leave the club, albeit on a temporary basis.

A number of clubs are believed to have expressed a desire to sign him in January, but it is understood that his first choice has always been to return to Dortmund due to his happiness at the club earlier in his career.

On Wednesday morning, it was reported that Man United and BVB were discussing the final details when it comes to a move for the 23-year-old.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a deal has now been agreed, with Sancho being allowed to undergo a medical with Dortmund ahead of an official announcement.

There had been claims that BVB were looking to include a purchase option in the deal, but it is alleged that there will be no such arrangement, with Sancho's future set to be assessed this summer.

The overall package will reportedly cost the Bundesliga side €4m (£3.4m), including covering part of Sancho's wages and a loan fee.

A positive pre-season led to suggestions that Man United boss Ten Hag was considering using Sancho as a false nine in the early stages of the 2023-24 campaign.

However, the forward was a substitute for the team's first three league games of the season before being left out entirely against Arsenal at the start of September.

Ten Hag said that poor performances in training led to Sancho being omitted, but the ex-Manchester City youngster insisted that was not the case, claiming that he had been made "a scapegoat" in a post on social media.

Sancho has seemingly refused to apologise for effectively calling his manager a liar, and he has been away from the first-team picture at Old Trafford for some time.

However, despite the developments, the forward is not said to be willing to entirely give up on his career at Man United, with the situation set to be assessed at the end of the campaign.
