Ray Parlour warns Chelsea to expect some late competition from Manchester United for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has tipped Manchester United to hijack Chelsea's deal for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Germany international Werner appears set to join Chelsea at the end of the season after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the Blues earlier this week.

The 24-year-old, who has played a direct part in 32 Bundesliga goals this season, is available for €60m (£53.8m) due to a release clause in his contract.

Liverpool are said to still hold an interest in Werner, however, and Parlour expects Premier League rivals United to make a late move for the prolific marksman.

"I'm amazed that Man United are not in for Werner," he told talkSPORT. "They've got money and probably do need another striker; Marcus Rashford can play wide if you need him to off the flank.

"I'm sure Manchester United might make a last-minute pop for Werner as well. I think the agent is trying to work the market now; that is how they work, putting it out there that the deal is nearly done and alerting other clubs so they have to pull their finger out.

"'If we really want this player then we've got to up the money and up the wages', and suddenly it could be a different factor for Chelsea."

Werner has scored 106 goals in 257 appearances for Leipzig since joining from Stuttgart in 2016.
