Premier League clubs become increasingly concerned that players could walk away if their contracts expire before the season can safely end, according to a report.

Premier League sides have supposedly made it clear that they want the season to be finished by June 30 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has seen matches in England's top flight suspended since mid-March, with no return date currently set as the virus sweeps across the globe.

The Premier League are scheduled to meet on Friday in order to discuss an action plan for the remainder of the season, but according to Sky Sports News, clubs are becoming increasingly concerned over players whose contracts are set to expire.

The report claims that teams are worried about the possibility of players being able to walk away if their deals run out this summer, although FIFA has advised that contracts should be extended until the season can safely finish.

Liverpool had forged a 25-point lead at the top of the table prior to the league's postponement, with relegation and promotion places also shrouded in uncertainty amid the pandemic.
