Coupe de la Ligue roundup: Paris Saint-Germain scrape past Ajaccio

Paris Saint-Germain, AS Monaco and Lille all progress into the quarter-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue - albeit with contrasting routes.

AS Monaco have qualified for the quarter-final of the Coupe de la Ligue after beating Lyon 5-4 on penalties at Stade de Gerland tonight.

Extra time was necessary to produce a winner following a goalless 90 minutes, with Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco opening the scoring before in-form Alexandre Lacazette levelled up on 106 minutes.

After scoring five of their six penalties, Monaco piled the pressure on 22-year-old Jordan Ferri to continue the shootout, but the youngster missed as the visitors progressed.

There was also penalty drama in Lille, as Rene Girard's side beat Bordeaux 6-5 in their shootout to reach the last-eight stage of the competition.

Mariano Ferreira opened the scoring for Bordeaux on 16 minutes, but it was not enough to earn a lead at the break as Michael Frey levelled up on the half-hour mark.

Another 90 minutes passed - including extra time - without either side finding the winner, but Mariano missed the decisive penalty to secure Lille's passage.

Elsewhere, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain survived a scare to beat Ajaccio 3-1 and remain on course to defend their title.

Johan Cavalli slotted a 27th-minute penalty to give the Ligue 2 outfit a slender half-time lead, but the visitors levelled up early in the second half through Edinson Cavani.

With 10 minutes remaining, Ajaccio, who sit 30 places below PSG in France's football league, looked good to take the clash into extra time.

However, right-back Serge Aurier pounced on 80 minutes to fire Laurent Blanc's side ahead, before Jean-Christophe Bahebeck secured their quarter-final place shortly after.

Meanwhile, Ligue 1 side Guingamp were also made to work hard for their progression against a second-tier club after beating Arles 2-0.

Christophe Mandanne fired Guingamp into a narrow half-time lead, while Claudio Beauvue added a second on 68 minutes to seal the win.

Results in full: Ajaccio 1-3 PSG, Arles-Avignon 0-2 Guingamp, Lille 1-1 Bordeaux (6-5), Lyon 0-0 (4-5), Rennes 1-0 Creteil
