Uruguay FA formally submit an appeal to FIFA against Luis Suarez's biting ban.

The Uruguay Football Association has formally submitted an appeal to FIFA against Luis Suarez's lengthy ban for biting.

The South American governing body jumped to the Liverpool striker's defence after he was punished for biting the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

The 27-year-old was banned for nine international matches with Uruguay, as well as from all football activity for four months, which will affect the start of the domestic season with Liverpool or any other club should he leave Anfield this summer.

Despite Suarez apologising for the incident, the Uruguayan FA has officially lodged an appeal in a bid to overturn or lessen the punishment.

Meanwhile, FIFA has confirmed that Suarez is permitted to undergo a medical should a transfer take place, despite being banned from all football activity.

Widespread reports have claimed that Suarez is on the verge of joining Barcelona in a possible £80m deal as talks continue between the Catalan giants and Liverpool.
