West Ham United are reportedly set to announce the appointment of David Moyes's successor as manager 'later this week'.

West Ham United are reportedly set to announce the appointment of David Moyes's successor as manager 'later this week'.

The 61-year-old took charge of his 262nd and final match as Hammers boss on Sunday when his side were beaten 3-1 by Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Moyes, who led West Ham to a 3-1 comeback victory over Luton Town in his final home game a week earlier, departs the club after securing a ninth-placed finish in the Premier League.

The Scotsman, who memorably steered the Hammers to Europa Conference League glory last season, admitted after the defeat to Man City that he has already received two job offers.

However, Moyes has agreed media commitments with both BBC Sport and TalkSPORT ahead of this summer's Euro 2024 tournament and is then expected to spend valuable time with his family.

West Ham on verge of confirming Lopetegui appointment

The search for Moyes's successor is already underway at West Ham and former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Julen Lopetegui has emerged as their leading managerial candidate.

A recent report claimed that the Hammers have agreed terms with Lopetegui to replace Moyes at the end of the season, with the Spaniard understood to have rebuffed enquiries from Bayern Munich.

An announcement of Lopetegui's arrival at the London Stadium now appears to be imminent, as BBC Sport reports that West Ham are set to appoint the 57-year-old as their new manager 'later this week'.

It is claimed that Lopetegui will be allowed to take over the Hammers for the start of pre-season, which includes a two-week trip to the USA for fixtures against Crystal Palace and former club Wolves, once he has penned his contract.

Lopetegui brings vast managerial experience at highest level

Lopetegui began his managerial career over 20 years ago and has since had success across Europe, most notably winning the 2019-20 Europa League with Sevilla.

The Spaniard's successful time at Sevilla came following a two-year spell as Spain's national team manager and a forgettable 14-game stint at Real Madrid where he was sacked after only three months in charge.

Lopetegui, who has also coached Rayo Vallecano and Porto, became a Premier League manager for the first time when he took charge of Wolves in November 2022; the Old Gold were bottom of the Premier League when he arrived, but they finished the 2022-23 season in 13th place, eight points above the relegation zone.

Despite steering Wolves to safety after winning 10 of his 27 games in charge, Lopetegui left Molineux by mutual consent on the eve of the 2023-24 campaign amid issues over the club's transfer funding.
