Morten Andersen understands Hall of Fame rebuff

Former New Orleans Saints kicker Morten Andersen admits that he understands the reason for his omission from the Hall of Fame class of 2014.

Former New Orleans Saints kicker Morten Andersen has admitted that he understands why he wasn't selected into the Hall of Fame class of 2014.

Andersen was nominated as one of 15 finalists from the modern era due to his outstanding 27-year career in the NFL, but missed the cut as Aeneas Williams, Michael Strahan, Derrick Brooks, Walter Jones and Andre Reed made the grade ahead of him.

"There's a lot of deserving guys that have been waiting a lot longer than I have," Andersen told the Baton Rouge Advocate. "I'm patient. I understand how the process works."

The 53-year-old holds the record for the most points ever scored by an NFL player.
