Rain showers are expected across the majority of Olympic venues this afternoon.

Light and patchy rain will continue to fall across London throughout the afternoon.

As a result a number of sports, including the tennis at Wimbledon and the beach volleyball at Horse Guards Parade are expected to be troubled by the damp conditions.

There is some slightly more positive news for this evening, with the rain showers expected to stop at around 7pm. That means that Team GB's women's football match against Brazil at Wembley should remain dry.

Other football matches in Cardiff and Newcastle may not be so lucky though, with rain showers anticipated.

However, those taking in and competing in the sailing down in Weymouth should fare slightly better than those in the capital.

It is currently cloudy down on the South coast but by around 2pm, brighter spells are expected, which should last for the remainder of the day.
