London is expected to stay dry with bright spells throughout the day as the athletics events in London 2012 get underway this morning.

Day seven of the London Olympic Games is expected to stay dry for the most part as spectators flock to the Olympic Stadium to mark the beginning of the athletics tournament in Stratford.

British hopeful Jessica Ennis gets her campaign for gold underway in the heptathlon event at 10am this morning, which should be dry but quite cloudy with a temperature of 18 degrees.

It should get slightly warmer as the day progresses, reaching the highest temperature of 22 degrees at around 4pm this afternoon, which is when Turkey and China will take to the court for their beach volleyball match at Horse Guards Parade.

Those heading to Hampden Park in Glasgow to watch Sweden and France in the first women's football quarter-final should expect showers around 1pm. However, the forecast shows that any wet weather will dry up by late afternoon.

For the majority of events around London, it is expected to stay dry but there is a chance of light showers in late morning.
