Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour happy with "almost perfect" badminton display

Scotland badminton player Kirsty Gilmour insists that finishing second in the women's singles competition at the Commonwealth Games was "almost perfect".

Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour has insisted that she is happy with her "almost perfect" women's singles silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The 20-year-old defeated Jing Yi Tee of Malaysia 2-0 yesterday to reach today's gold-medal final, where she was comfortably dispatched by Canada's Michelle Li.

"It was almost perfect but not as perfect as I could have made it," Gilmour told BBC Sport. "I'm happy with any colour medal. The field was so strong and to be in that second spot is just great.

"The legs and the head did not quite match up today. Physically I felt great, even on day 11, but I didn't get a great night's sleep last night funnily enough.

"I wasn't able to put my phone away as much as I would like. I think I knuckled down and gave so much concentration yesterday that I didn't have much left for today. But I am still happy."

The gold medal for Li is Canada's first ever in the women's singles event at the Games.
