Irish pair lose opening men's doubles badminton group game

Joshua and Sam Magee taste defeat in Ireland's opening men's doubles badminton match in Baku by falling 21-17 21-16 to Denmark.

Ireland's men's doubles side have suffered defeat in their first pool-stage match at the European Games.

Joshua and Sam Magee fell to a 2-0 reverse at Baku Sports Hall in the Azerbaijani capital against Danish pair Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen.

Denmark took the opening game 21-17 in a time of 17 minutes, before wrapping things up with a 21-16 success in the second game.

Ireland are to face Portugal and the Czech Republic in their final two Group A meetings.
