Warren Baister misses out on heavyweight medal

English boxer Warren Baister misses out on a medal in the heavyweight contest after losing on a split decision to Canadian fighter Samir El-Mais in the quarter-finals.

England boxer Warren Baister has failed to reach the semi-finals in the heavyweight contest at the Commonwealth Games this afternoon.

Canada's Samir El-Mais got the better of the 28-year-old in their closely-fought quarter-final bout, getting the benefit of a split decision from the judges.

The 33-year-old's victory guarantees him a medal as well as a place in the last four.

El-Mais has improved on his result from four years ago in Delhi, where he lost to Kevin Evans of Wales in the quarter-finals.
