Terry Flanagan defeats Diego Magdaleno in second round

WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan retains his title after knocking out Diego Magdaleno in the second round.

Britain's Terry Flanagan successfully defended his WBO lightweight crown after he knocked out America's Diego Magdaleno in the second round last night.

Flanagan, 26, stopped Magdaleno, who had only been beaten once in his previous 27 fights, with a left hook before connecting with a flurry of punches to leave the referee with no choice but to call the bout off.

"After his first knockdown I didn't go down too daft but after I caught him with another few shots I knew he was there for a taking," Flanagan is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"A few people said I didn't deserve to be world champion but I proved tonight that I am a true world champion."

Flanagan, who now has career numbers of 29-0, earned the WBO title after defeating Jose Zepeda via a technical knockout in July.
