Chris Gayle hits ton as Royal Challengers Bangalore thrash Kings XI Punjab

Chris Gayle hits 117 runs off 57 balls as Royal Challengers Bangalore record a 138-run victory over Kings XI Punjab in the IPL.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have moved into third place in the IPL with a 138-run victory over Kings XI Punjab.

Chris Gayle was the star of the show for the home side after he struck seven fours and 12 sixes during an exhilarating innings of 117 runs off 57 balls.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers weighed in with 32 and 47 respectively, but it was Gayle's knock that did the damage as Bangalore reached 226-3 off their 20 overs.

Punjab needed to hit the ground running with their reply, but they never looked like getting near their target after slumping to 39-6 after an inspired opening burst from Sreenath Aravind, who recorded figures of 4-27.

Axar Patel made an unbeaten 40 off 21 balls, but Mitchell Starc brought the innings to an abrupt end by blowing away the tailenders to see Punjab dismissed for just 88 in 13.4 overs.
