The sale of Channel 4 could reportedly raise as much as £2 billion, double the government's initial estimates.

The privatisation of Channel 4 could raise as much as £2 billion, it has been reported, as the sale process gets underway.

Culture secretary Nadine Dorries launched a government white paper last week confirming that the broadcaster will be sold - despite 96% of respondents to a public consultation being against the proposals.

Initially the government had hoped to raise around £1 billion from the sale, but The Sunday Times says that offers in the magnitude of £2 billion are now expected.

According to the newspaper, bank JP Morgan have been advising the government on the sale and have already fielded "more than two dozen expressions of interest".

Among those thought to be in the running are ITV, Comcast-owned Sky, Warner Bros. Discovery and the French firm Vivendi, owner of Canal+.
