New Japan Pro-Wrestling to air on Roku Channel in UK

New Japan Pro-Wrestling will return to British screens through The Roku Channel starting next week, it is announced.

The Roku Channel has agreed a deal for the rights to air New Japan Pro-Wrestling in the UK, US and Canada starting from next week.

The promotion has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity over the last few years but has been absent from British screens for more than a decade.

Under the deal, The Roku Channel - available for free through Sky Q and Now TV - will premiere new episodes, with dubbed English commentary, every Thursday night starting on February 11, while archive content from 2020 will become available on-demand.

"Our fans in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom are among our most loyal, and they have been very clear that they want NJPW's content made available to them," said NJPW president Takami Ohbari.

"NJPW is unlike any other pro-wrestling in the world. It is the most athletic, sports-oriented pro-wrestling on the planet, and we are excited to bring our athletes and matches to these markets in such a major way.

"Thank you to The Roku Channel, and we look forward to a successful partnership that brings NJPW to millions of new fans around the world."

Roku is also in the process of integrating Quibi content into its service following the closure of the short-form video streamer last year.
