This year's Great British Bake Off to be cancelled?

Channel 4 are reportedly considering cancelling this year's The Great British Bake Off due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Channel 4 are reportedly considering cancelling this year's series of The Great British Bake Off due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The show was due to begin filming last month over 10 consecutive weekends at its usual location in Berkshire but production was brought to an abrupt halt after the UK entered lockdown.

The contestants usually travel to and from Berkshire from their homes every weekend but such movements are likely to be not possible for at least several months due to the lockdown rules.

"Nobody knows how the contestants will get there, it is proving to be one hell of a headache," a source told the Daily Mail. "We are waiting for it to be postponed any minute now. What is most important is health and safety."

Bake Off is a hugely important part of the Channel 4 schedules and last year averaged 9.24 million viewers - and a peak of 10.21 million - between August and October.

The upcoming 11th series is due to be the first to feature Matt Lucas as a new co-host.
