Jamelia is to leave her role as Sharon Bailey on Hollyoaks after three years.

Jamelia is to leave her role as Dr Sharon Bailey on Hollyoaks after three years, it has been confirmed.

The news comes as the soap prepares for a major change in September to coincide with its reduction from five episodes a week to just three.

A huge storyline will see the show permanently jump forward in time by one year - a plot device that will see around 20 characters depart the village in one fell swoop.

Jamelia is now confirmed to be among the cast members leaving the Channel 4 series this year, as revealed in a synopsis for the new fly-on-the-wall docuseries Drama Queens, which features her as a cast member.

It reads: "Jamelia embarks on a transformative journey, prioritising her own well-being and family over the glitz of Hollyoaks.

"As she prepares to bid farewell to the show, we witness her emotional transition, packing up her life in the UK to start anew in Dubai, all while cherishing the bond with her four daughters."

The exact timing of Jamelia's exit is unknown, meaning that she could leave before September or her character could be written out as part of the time-jump storyline.

Also confirmed to be leaving Hollyoaks this year are long-time cast members Jamie Lomas (Warren) and Ross Adams (Scott).
