Peter Rabbit 2 tops UK box office as cinemas reopen
Peter Rabbit 2 puts in a strong showing at the box office as UK cinemas welcome back customers.

Kids sequel Peter Rabbit 2 led the way at the UK box office over the weekend as cinemas reopened their doors for the first time in months.

The UK government eased coronavirus rules last Monday, May 17, paving the way for cinemas to begin welcoming customers again just in time for the half-term holidays.

Peter Rabbit 2 - featuring the vocal talents of James Corden - drew a solid £4.61 million in takings over the weekend, the highest weekly figure since the release of Tenet last August.

Oscar-winning Nomadland was released via Disney+ but is also being given a run in UK cinemas, bringing in £874,785 for second place on the chart.

Godzilla vs. Kong was third with £783,879 for a gross of £1.23 million, while horror reboot-of-sorts Spiral: From The Book of Saw opened in fourth after sales of £779,107.

New releases this week include Ben Whishaw thriller Surge, horror sequel The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Emma Stone's Disney spinoff Cruella and kids adventure Felix and the Hidden Treasure.
