Project Restart: Arsenal's remaining 2019-20 Premier League fixtures

Ahead of the Premier League restart next week, Sports Mole looks at the remaining fixtures facing Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.

Arsenal will have to hit the ground running when the Premier League returns next week if they are to have any hope of qualifying for Europe.

Securing a spot in next season's Europa League will be the minimum requirement for Mikel Arteta, but the Gunners are also still very much in the running for a Champions League berth.

Ninth-place Arsenal find themselves five points adrift of Manchester United in fifth - possibly enough for Champions League football, depending on the outcome of Manchester City's CAS appeal - with a game in hand to play.

With 10 fixtures still to come, and having put together a three-game winning run prior to the coronavirus-enforced shutdown, Arteta will be confident of making up that gap.

Arsenal's first fixture back from the three-month hiatus could not be more difficult, however, as they travel to reigning champions Man City next Wednesday.

That is the first of three successive away games for the North London outfit, either side of an FA Cup quarter-final showdown against Sheffield United, with trips to strugglers Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton to follow.

Indeed, not until July 1 will Arsenal be back at the Emirates Stadium, with bottom side Norwich City the visitors that day.

Should the Gunners still be in the mix for the top five at that point, they have four defining fixtures to come against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in quick succession.

Arteta's men then conclude the 2019-20 campaign with a trip to Aston Villa and a home match against Watford, which is scheduled for July 26.
