Aston Villa and Sheffield United take a knee on the opening whistle of their Premier League game to show their support to the 'Black Lives Matter' campaign.

Aston Villa and Sheffield United have marked the resumption of the Premier League by taking a knee to show their support to the 'Black Lives Matter' campaign.

After an enforced break of 100 days due to the coronavirus pandemic, England's top flight resumed on Wednesday night with the game at Villa Park.

However, rather than each team set about their business on the pitch, they opted to show their support to a global message away from it after the death of George Floyd in the United States.

Both sets of players, as well as referee Michael Oliver and his assistants, knelt down for a number of seconds before the visitors put the ball in play.

The Premier League announced earlier this month that shirt names would also be replaced by 'Black Lives Matter' for the remaining 92 matches.
