Barcelona representatives met with the father of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner in March to discuss a potential move to Camp Nou, according to a report.

Barcelona representatives reportedly met with the father of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner in March to discuss a potential move to Camp Nou during this summer's transfer window.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed an impressive 2019-20 campaign to date at club level, scoring 27 times and registering 12 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Liverpool have long been credited with an interest in the Germany international, although a recent report claimed that the Reds were not preparing to activate his release clause.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca director of football Eric Abidal and his assistant Ramon Planes met with Werner's father in March before the coronavirus outbreak took hold.

The report claims that the Spanish champions discussed a possible move for the centre-forward this summer, although it is currently unclear when the upcoming window will open.

Barca also continue to be linked with Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez as they line up a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez, who will be 34 at the start of next year.
