Borussia Dortmund confident over new Erling Braut Haaland deal

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is confident that Erling Braut Haaland will eventually want to sign a new contract at the Westfalenstadion.

Hans-Joachim Watzke has claimed that he is "optimistic" about keeping Erling Braut Haaland at Borussia Dortmund in the long term.

Haaland has enjoyed an impressive first 10 months at the Westfalenstadion, contributing 26 goals from 28 appearances in all competitions.

However, the 20-year-old continues to be linked with a future transfer away from the Bundesliga giants, potentially for a fee set out in his contract.

Dortmund CEO Watzke has dismissed such suggestions, insisting that the Norway international is happy with life in Germany.

Speaking to Bild, Watzke said: "There is no such agreement. It is about convincing the player of your club and your plans. We really want Erling to stay with us longer and we want to convince him and his agent of this.

"I am quite optimistic. I think Erling is comfortable at BVB. We can definitively say that he took the right step last winter by signing for our club. I would consider it a mistake if he moved on after such a short amount of time."

Haaland currently has a contract at Dortmund until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
