Marvin Compper joins Duisburg following unsuccessful Celtic stint

Compper suffered from fitness problems soon afterwards but was later out of the picture under both Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon despite a series of injuries in central defence.

He had a year left on his Celtic contract but has signed for Duisburg on a two-year deal.

His new club are gearing up for life in the third tier of German football after finishing bottom of Bundesliga 2 last season.

Duisburg sporting director Ivo Grlic told the club's official website: "With him, we got exactly the experienced centre-back that I really wanted.

"He is the leading player who perfectly complements our young team with his qualities.

"I talked to him often over a long period of time, and my patience and stubbornness paid off in the end. "
