Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is personally leading the Blues' charge to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from a financially-hit Inter Milan, according to a report.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly leading the charge to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan this summer.

The forward left Stamford Bridge in 2014 with only 15 appearances and no goals to show for his three years in the capital, but he struck 24 times en route to the Serie A title with Inter Milan last term.

However, with Inter in financial ruin and on the lookout for a new manager after Antonio Conte's departure, Lukaku is being tipped to complete a transfer elsewhere this summer.

A recent report indicated that the Nerazzurri are not willing to entertain offers for Lukaku under any circumstances, but Eurosport claims that Abramovich is ready to test Inter's resolve.

The report adds that Simone Inzaghi - who will take over from Conte - wants to keep the Belgian on the books, but Inter's volatile economic situation could tempt him into returning to the Premier League.

Manchester City are also thought to be weighing up a move for Lukaku, as the Citizens waved goodbye to Sergio Aguero earlier this week, and Gabriel Jesus's future is also up in the air.

Lukaku's Inter deal runs for another three years, and he has totalled 64 goals in 95 games for the Italian champions.
