England Women head coach Mark Sampson has reportedly been sacked by the FA, despite initial claims that he has decided to quit.

Mark Sampson has reportedly been sacked as the manager of England Women, despite initial speculation that he decided to quit.

The Football Association is expected to confirm the 34-year-old's departure in a press conference this afternoon.

The Wales-born football coach was cleared of two separate investigations into allegations from former Lioness Eni Aluko, who claimed that in 2015 Sampson asked mixed-race midfielder Drew Spence how many times she had been arrested.

Aluko also claimed that one year earlier, the England coach had made an alleged racist remark by advising the striker not to bring her family over from Nigeria due to concerns that they may all have the Ebola virus.

According to BBC Sport, the departure of Sampson, who vehemently denies the allegations, has come about due to fresh claims made about his behaviour in a previous role from years ago.

It was initially reported that the England Women's coach had stepped down from his position, but according to The Guardian journalist Daniel Taylor, the FA has fired him after a new scandal was uncovered.

Sampson has led the Lionesses to two successive semi-finals in major competitions in the past four years.
