Everton complete the signing of 22-year-old English winger Dwight McNeil from Burnley on a five-year deal ahead of their 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

Everton have completed the signing of 22-year-old Burnley winger Dwight McNeil on a five-year deal ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

It was reported on Wednesday that the Toffees had moved into advanced talks to sign the former England Under-21s international, with a medical taking place at the club's Finch Farm training ground.

Frank Lampard's side have beaten the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham United to McNeil's signature, who was in demand following Burnley's relegation from the top flight last season.

Speaking to evertontv following the official announcement on Thursday, McNeil said: "It is an amazing feeling to sign. When I heard about Everton's interest I wanted to get it done straight away because of the club and how good the team is.

"Speaking to the manager about what they want going forward, it really excited me and appealed to me. I wanted to be part of it. He knows me as a player, as does Kevin Thelwell. I want to work hard and do well for the team and for the fans.

"I feel playing under a manager like Frank Lampard, he will help me to get my stats up – and that is what I want to do and improve my game.

"I am a direct runner with the ball. I like to get on the ball, cut inside and create chances for the team. I want to help the team as best as I can, work hard and do the defensive side of the game, too."

The winger becomes Everton's third signing of the summer so far, with McNeil's former teammate James Tarkowski also making the move from Turf Moor earlier in the window, before Ruben Vinagre joined on a season-long loan deal on Wednesday.

During his five-year stay with the Clarets, McNeil went on to make 147 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring seven goals during that time.
