Fabio Liverani: 'Leyton Orient players are yet to be paid'

Leyton Orient manager Fabio Liverani admits that his players have not been paid this month, blaming "technical problems" for the delay.

Leyton Orient manager Fabio Liverani has admitted that his players have not been paid this month, but blamed "technical problems" for the delay.

The East London club, taken over by Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti last summer, are currently languishing in the League One drop zone.

O's captain Nathan Clarke went on record in February to refute reports claiming that players had been unsettled by the wage structure and that some staff were determined to leave.

Liverani told BBC Sport: "There's been a slight delay due to transfers into foreign bank accounts. It is predicted by Wednesday that both staff and players will be paid.

"I think it has been made a lot of, I wouldn't say fuss, but attention about this, when in Italy we get money every four months in football. We understand it is different in England but it's not a big problem.

"There was a technical problem due to bank transfers. There is no concern in terms of the chairman's investment in the club, which is huge. This was a one-off situation and not an example that is going to be repeated again."

Orient were beaten in the League One play-off final by Rotherham United last season.
