Liverpool are unlikely to move for Timo Werner as a result of serious financial implications in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report.

Liverpool will reportedly miss out on RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner this summer amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Werner has been persistently linked with a switch to Anfield throughout the past few months, with recent reports suggesting that Jurgen Klopp's side were at the head of the queue for the Germany international.

However, the COVID-19 outbreak has led to leagues being cancelled or suspended until further notice, and Liverpool's transfer strategy will supposedly have to change as financial issues arise.

According to The Mirror, the Reds are unlikely to make any additions to their squad this summer, and Klopp's side will not activate Werner's £50m release clause.

The report also claims that Liverpool were keeping a close eye on Lyon's Houssem Aouar prior to the enforced suspension, although a move for the midfielder would have cost them around £40m.

While Premier League clubs are hopeful of resuming the 2019-20 campaign, a lack of matchday income from games played behind closed doors is likely to have serious financial implications for teams in England's top flight.

Werner has notched up 27 goals across all competitions for Leipzig this season.
