Luis Suarez investigation fast-tracked by FIFA

FIFA sets a deadline of 9pm to conclude its investigation into Luis Suarez's alleged biting incident.

FIFA is fast-tracking its investigation into allegations that Uruguay striker Luis Suarez bit Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during Tuesday's World Cup meeting between the two nations.

A disciplinary panel is scheduled to meet on Wednesday evening to discuss the incident, setting a deadline of 9pm local time to respond to the claims.

"The Disciplinary Committee understands the urgency of the matter," said FIFA spokesperson Delia Fischer.

"It is working to get and assess all elements in order to make a decision as early as possible, particularly given the fact that Uruguay are still in the tournament."

Suarez has twice been banned for biting opponents in the past, with the Liverpool forward suspended for 10 domestic matches last year following an incident involving Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic.

He was also banned for seven matches in 2010 for sinking his teeth into PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax.

FIFA will now review video evidence and potentially take retrospective action against Suarez, with the governing body able to hand out international bans.
