Manchester City 'had £55m bid rejected for Kalidou Koulibaly'

Manchester City were reportedly only prepared to pay £55m up-front for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly during the summer transfer window.

Manchester City reportedly failed with a bid of £55m plus bonuses for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly during the summer transfer window.

The Senegal international has continued his association with the Serie A giants, despite frequent speculation regarding his future at Stadio San Paolo.

City were one of a number of clubs interested in signing the 29-year-old, who is regarded as Napoli's most prized asset.

However, Calciomercato claims that the Premier League giants were only prepared to pay a guaranteed £55m, which was significantly below Napoli's asking price.

The report says that president Aurelio De Laurentiis would have only considered parting ways with Koulibaly if the club received in excess of £75m.

Koulibaly turns 30 in June, which will likely result in his valuation being reduced unless he extends his contract past 2023.
