Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane would reportedly prefer to coach Manchester United than become Bayern Munich's new manager.

Zidane experienced significant success during two spells as Real Madrid manager, winning 11 pieces of silverware, including three consecutive Champions League trophies between 2016 and 2018.

Despite enjoying success with Los Blancos, Zidane has been out of work since leaving the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2021.

However, his time out of the game has not prevented him from being linked with the managerial position at German giants Bayern.

A recent report claimed that Bayern have made contact with Zidane about succeeding Thomas Tuchel, who has already confirmed that he will leave his role at the end of the season.

Zidane favouring Man United job

There has recently been a suggestion that a deal is close between Bayern and Zidane, but it appears that the Frenchman is reluctant to commit to the Bundesliga club.

According to L'Equipe, Zidane would prefer to become Man United's new manager than take over the reins at the Allianz Arena.

The report claims the 51-year-old views the German language and living in Bavaria as potential obstacles to becoming the new Bayern boss.

While he is unable to speak fluent English, Zidane is believed to have a better understanding of it than German.

The Real Madrid legend is currently monitoring the situation at Old Trafford with uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag's future.

Will Ten Hag leave this summer?

Ten Hag still has over a year left to run on his current contract, but he has seen his position come under scrutiny following an inconsistent campaign.

Man United were knocked out in the Champions League group stage earlier this season and are now battling to secure their place in Europe for the 2024-25 season.

Having picked up 50 points from 32 matches, the Red Devils are sitting in seventh position with goal difference keeping them behind sixth-placed Newcastle United.

The FA Cup represents the only opportunity for Man United to win a trophy this season, with Ten Hag's side set to face Championship outfit Coventry City in Sunday's semi-final at Wembley.

A recent report claimed that a number of Man United players believe that Ten Hag has resigned himself to losing his job at the end of the campaign.

While it remains to be seen whether that will be the case, it will be up to new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Man United's new-look hierarchy to decide whether Ten Hag will stay in his position for next season.
