Liverpool are denied the chance to win the title on the earliest date in Premier League history after football in England is suspended until April 30 at the earliest.

Liverpool have been denied the chance to record the earliest Premier League title-winning date after professional football in England was further postponed until the end of April.

The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc to the sporting calendar and the football authorities yesterday confirmed that action would not return in the Premier League, EFL, FA Cup or women's game until April 30 at the earliest.

There was no mention of the possibility of the season being cancelled in the statement released by the Premier League, which will come as a relief to a Liverpool side on the brink of their first title for 30 years.

The Reds are just six points away from being crowned champions of England for a 19th time and had been on course to shatter a host of records following a stellar campaign which has seen them drop just five points from a possible 87.

However, the suspension of play means that they can no longer beat Manchester United's record earliest winning title date of April 14, which they achieved in 2000-01.

Jurgen Klopp's side can still secure the title earlier than any other team in terms of games, though; they have nine top-flight matches left this season and need to win just two of them - or one if they play Manchester City in their next game. The current record stands at five games remaining.

Should the season be completed then Liverpool could also set records for the biggest winning margin, most points, most wins, most home wins and most away wins in a single Premier League campaign.
