Chelsea attacker Mason Mount is reportedly waiting for the Blues to send a final contract proposal, as the club attempt to sign him to a new long-term deal.

Mason Mount is reportedly currently waiting for Chelsea to send a 'new and final proposal', with the Blues looking to sign the England international to a fresh long-term contract.

The London club announced on Monday that Reece James had penned a new deal at Stamford Bridge, with the contract due to run until the summer of 2028.

Mount is allegedly next in line for an extension, and according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, there have been discussions for 'a long time' over his future.

Romano claims that the playmaker is currently waiting for Chelsea to submit their final proposal, with negotiations set to resume in the near future.

The 23-year-old was again a vital player for the Blues during the 2021-22 campaign, making 53 appearances in all competitions, contributing 13 goals and 16 assists in the process.

The attacker's contract only has two years left to run, though, and he is thought to be one of the lowest-paid players at Stamford Bridge despite his status.

Over the summer, Mount revealed that he was "very happy" at Chelsea and was hopeful that discussions with the club over a fresh deal would begin "soon".

"After the last game of the season we had a little get-together at the hotel and he [Todd Boehly] was there with the rest of the consortium, it was good to meet them in person and speak to them all," Mount told the Evening Standard at the time.

"It's so exciting what the future holds. It's an unknown but the way it's started is really exciting to see what's going to happen.

"We're a team that over the last ten years has been up there and pushing and that is where we want to stay. Speaking to them about their goals and aims, we're on the same page.

"So hopefully that continues. I've got two years left on my contract and I'm very, very happy here. Those talks will hopefully be starting soon."

Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have all previously been credited with an interest in the Englishman, who had a successful loan spell at Derby County in the Championship during the 2018-19 campaign before returning to Stamford Bridge.

Mount has also been an important player for Thomas Tuchel's side in the early stages of this season, making six Premier League appearances, although he is yet to score or provide an assist.

The attacker played the final 30 minutes of Saturday's 2-1 win over West Ham United in the Premier League, and he will be hoping to be back in the starting XI for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb.

Mount has made 166 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring 30 goals and contributing 31 assists.
