Jose Mourinho is reportedly prepared to take the lead in Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to take the leading role in Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

Spurs were held to a 2-2 draw by Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, a result which represents another setback in their bid to qualify for the Champions League.

While Spurs possess the fourth-best defensive record in this season's Premier League, Mourinho's backline has received constant criticism since September.

According to Football Insider, the Portuguese wants to rectify the situation by bringing in Slovakia international Skriniar.

Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the 26-year-old, who is currently starring in the centre of Inter's defence as they bid to win the Serie A title.

The report suggests that Mourinho wants to be heavily involved in discussions with the player if Spurs have an offer accepted by the Italian outfit.
