Sebastian Vettel avoids further punishment for Azerbaijan Grand Prix incident

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel avoids further sanctioning for his part in an incident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has avoided further sanctions for his part in an incident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

During a period where the safety car was deployed, Vettel drove into the back of rival Lewis Hamilton, and initially felt that the Mercedes driver was at fault.

It resulted in Vettel moving to the side of Hamilton and barging his Ferrari into the Briton's Mercedes, but he only received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for his actions.

After the race, Vettel maintained his belief that Hamilton was at fault - despite fierce criticism from the motor racing fraternity - but in a meeting which was held on Monday afternoon, Vettel apologised for his part in the incident and accepted full responsibility.

While the four-time world champion will not be deducted any points or be suspended from a grand prix, he will devote more time to "education activities across a variety of FIA competition and events" over the next 12 months.

Vettel currently holds a 14-point advantage over Hamilton in the world championship standings.
