England thrash Wales to reach medal rounds

England thrash Wales 85-31 to book their place in the medal rounds for netball at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

England have booked their place in the netball medal rounds at the Commonwealth Games courtesy of a one-sided victory over Wales this afternoon.

Tracey Neville's side extended their 100% record at the Games in comfortable fashion on the Gold Coast, cruising to an 85-31 triumph over their neighbours.

The first quarter gave a glimpse of things to come as England raced into a 21-5 lead, and the second was even more emphatic with Neville's side - one of the favourites to challenge for gold in the competition - extending their advantage to 45-10 at the halfway stage.

England were in no mood to relent as they looked to lay down a marker to hosts Australia - their most likely barrier to the gold medal - and they continued their high rate of scoring in the second half.

It was not until they took their foot off the pedal a little in the fourth that Wales managed to reach double figures in any quarter, but they were second best on the day as they fell to a third consecutive defeat.

In contrast, England have now won all four of their matches to sit four points clear at the top of Pool A, above New Zealand after the Silver Ferns fell to one of the biggest shocks in Commonwealth Games history yesterday when they lost to Malawi.

England will face New Zealand in their final pool game on Wednesday, whereas Wales must still face Uganda and Malawi over the next two games.
