Canada's Taylor Ruck sets new 200m record

Canada's Taylor Ruck sets a new Commonwealth Games record as she claims gold in the women's 200m freestyle event.

Team Canada swimmer Taylor Ruck has set a new Commonwealth Games record, finishing in a time of 1:54.81 in the women's 200m freestyle event.

Australia's Ariarne Titmus went into the final with the fastest time from the qualifiers but had to settle for second place this evening, losing out by an agonising 0.04 seconds.

Titmus's teammate and the defending champion Emma McKeon, who set the record in Glasgow four years ago, rounded out the podium with a time of 1:56.26.

Team England duo Eleanor Faulkner and Holly Hibbott finished fourth and fifth respectively, while Scotland's Lucy Hope finished last.

Faulkner now goes on to face the 400m freestyle and Hibbott will compete in both the 400m and 800m freestyle.
