England's Paul Drinkhall crashes out of men's table tennis singles

Paul Drinkhall loses 4-1 to India's Sharath Kamal Achanta to end his hopes of winning a men's singles medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

England's Paul Drinkhall has crashed out of the men's table tennis singles at the Commonwealth Games following a 4-1 defeat at the hands of India's Sharath Kamal Achanta

The 24-year-old got off to a bad start at the Scotstoun Sports Campus, losing the first game 11-7 before soon falling two games behind when Achanta prevailed 11-6.

The match continued in a similar fashion, and it was soon 3-0 to the third seed with a 12-10 triumph in the following game.

Drinkhall did manage to pull one back in the fourth, but there was to be no comeback as Achanta turned it on once more to take the match 4-1 overall.

The Englishman still has hopes of a Games medal, however, after progressing to the final of the mixed doubles earlier today.
