Head-to-head record
Previous meetings: 211
Man City wins: 65
Draws: 46
Arsenal wins: 100
The inaugural battle between Arsenal - then prefixed with Woolwich - and Manchester City, formerly known as Ardwick, in 1893 marked the first of 211 showdowns between the Citizens and the Gunners, who lead the way with a century of wins against the English champions, hitting that three-figure mark in an Emirates encounter in October 2023 thanks to a deflected Gabriel Martinelli strike.
Victory number 99 had come Arsenal's way just a few months beforehand in the 2023 Community Shield as they held their nerve from the penalty spot, thereby ending an eight-game losing streak against Guardiola's men since another smash-and-grab Wembley success behind closed doors in the 2019-20 FA Cup semi-finals.
Goalmouth action was sparse in Easter Sunday's Etihad battle in 2024, though, where Arsenal were happy to settle for a goalless stalemate, ending their streak of embarrassment after embarrassment on Man City's territory in the process.
The Gunners had previously lost seven Premier League ties in a row against the Citizens on Manchester turf, but they would be left to lament not going gung-ho for all of the spoils, losing the 2023-24 top-flight crown to Man City by a mere two points.
City's aforementioned eight-game winning sequence took them up to 65 triumphs over Arsenal in their history, and even though their most recent encounter at the Etihad ended with no goals to be had, the Citizens remain unbreakable on their own territory.
Across their last three top-flight showdowns at the Etihad, Man City have made the net bulge nine times while conceding just once themselves - to perhaps the unlikeliest scorer in Rob Holding - and it has been nine years since Arsenal emerged victorious on the Sky Blues' soil.
On that occasion, the silky Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud propelled Arsene Wenger's charges to a two-goal victory, but Arsenal failed to emulate the class of 2014-15 over the Easter period, in a game best consigned to the back pages of the Premier League annals.
Indeed, there were just three shots on target across the entire 90 minutes - one for Pep Guardiola's side and two for Mikel Arteta's men - although the Gunners' defensive resolve did end Man City's incredible 47-match scoring sequence in home Premier League matches, stretching back to October 2021.
