Sam Ryder is leading the race to enter the new year at number one spot in the singles chart.

Sam Ryder is on course to claim his first ever UK number one single this week, according to the latest data from the Official Charts Company.

Last week the Eurovision hero charted at number two in the race for the Christmas number one with his single 'You're Christmas To Me' - an exclusive track to Amazon Music.

As things stand he is in pole position to enter the new year in top spot, with last week's victor - Wham! classic 'Last Christmas' - tracking at two.

Elsewhere in the midweeks, Jorja Smith's cover of 'Stay Another Day' is up from 18 to seven and Ariana Grande's 'Santa Tell Me' is up two places to nine.

Kelly Clarkson's iconic 'Underneath The Tree' could also be set for a new best placing and is currently tracking at number 12.
