Preview: Boreham Wood vs. Torquay United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Boreham Wood and Torquay United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Torquay United will be looking to build on Saturday's five-goal success over Wealdstone when they travel to Meadow Park in the National League on Tuesday night to take on Boreham Wood.

The visitors are currently 13th in the table with 11 points from their opening nine matches, while Boreham occupy fourth, having picked up 18 points from their first nine fixtures.

Five wins, three draws and one defeat - that is how Boreham have performed in the National League this season, with a total of 18 points from nine matches leaving them in fourth position in the table.

The Wood, who finished 14th in the National League last season, will enter Tuesday's contest off the back of a 1-1 draw at Eastleigh on Saturday; Harry Pritchard sent the hosts ahead in Hampshire, but Scott Boden's 33rd-minute penalty proved to be enough to secure a share of the spoils.

Boreham recorded a 2-1 win over Yeovil Town in their last league match at Meadow Park and now have two huge home fixtures against Torquay and Dagenham & Redbridge in quick succession.

Luke Garrard's side could move to the summit if they win on Tuesday and other results go their way, and it will be fascinating to see whether the Hertfordshire outfit can challenge for promotion this term.

Torquay, as mentioned, will enter this match off the back of a 5-0 success over Wealdstone on Saturday; Dan Holman scored twice for the hosts, who were four goals up by the interval in Devon.

The Gulls finished second in the National League last season, which saw them qualify for the playoff semi-finals; they overcame Notts County to reach the final but were then beaten on penalties by Hartlepool United.

Gary Johnson's side will therefore spend at least another campaign at this level, and they have made a mixed start to the season, picking up 11 points from nine matches to sit down in 13th position.

Torquay are now unbeaten in their last three league encounters, though, picking up seven points from their fixtures against Southend United, Chesterfield and Wealdstone, and the visitors will be looking to put another three points on the board when they head to Boreham.

Team News

Boreham were unchanged for the eighth successive National League match against Eastleigh at the weekend, and it likely to be a case of same again for the home side on Tuesday night.

Augustin Mafuta is perhaps the player pushing the hardest to break into the starting side, while Connor Smith also came off the bench at the weekend and is in contention.

Jacob Mendy, Tyrone Marsh and Boden should again feature in the forward areas, though, with Garrard likely to have been pleased with his side's overall performance at Eastleigh.

As for Torquay, Johnson made four changes to his side for the clash against Wealdstone, with Dan Martin, Connor Lemonheigh-Evans, Holman and Tom Lapslie coming into the XI.

All four players could retain their spots on Tuesday, while Mark Halstead and Jake Andrews are both expected to be on the bench for the second match in succession.

Greek attacker Klaidi Lolos featured off the bench on Saturday, and the 19-year-old is likely to be among the substitutes once again.

Boreham Wood possible starting lineup:
Ashmore; Fyfield, Ricketts, Ilesanmi, Evans; Smith, Raymond, Rees; Boden, Marsh, Mendy

Torquay United possible starting lineup:
MacDonald; Moxey, Lewis, Hall, Lapslie; Martin, O'Connell, Wynter, Little; Holman, Lemonheigh-Evans

We say: Boreham Wood 2-2 Torquay United

This should be a really interesting match between two strong sides; Torquay are better than what they have shown in the early stages of the season, but Boreham are flying high in the division, and we are expecting the two teams to share the points in an entertaining contest.
