Cordoba win moves Rayo Vallecano into top half

Rayo Vallecano beat Cordoba 2-1 to move into the top half of La Liga.

Rayo Vallecano are on course for a top-half finish after they picked up a hard-fought win away to already-relegated Cordoba this evening.

The Madrid side looked set to miss out on victory, but a late Adrian Embarba strike saw Vallecano move into 10th.

Rayo led after 21 minutes when Raul Baena found space to shoot in the centre of the penalty area before sending his effort into the roof of Mikel Saizar's net.

The hosts, who will finish bottom of the table regardless of results on the final day, almost got back on level terms within seconds when Fede Vico's strike from close range came back of the woodwork with Tono beaten.

Cordoba did manage to equalise early in the second half as Luso drilled a low shot into the bottom corner, moments after Emiliano Insua was denied the chance to double Rayo's advantage.

However, Vallecano wouldn't be denied for long as Embarba took Roberto Trashorras's headed pass in his stride before hitting the ball beyond Saizar to seal victory.
