Preview: Maidstone United vs. Woking - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's National League clash between Maidstone United and Woking, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Maidstone United are seeking to end a woeful 17-game winless run when they host promotion-chasing Woking at the Gallagher Stadium in the National League on Saturday afternoon.

Woking will be looking to get back to winning ways themselves after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Chesterfield last time out.

Maidstone's winless run reached 17 games as their slide towards National League South continued at Maidenhead United last weekend.

The Magpies were the last side that Maidstone beat in a 3-2 win at the Gallagher Stadium on November 26, but a first-half double from Emile Acquah ensured there would be no repeat this time around, with Regan Booty pulling a goal back late in the second half for the Mighty Stones.

The search for a permanent manager continues at Maidstone with George Elokobi still in temporary charge, and the task at hand remains a huge one - United remain rock-bottom of the table, 13 points from safety in the National League, with eight games to go.

Elokobi's side have both the worst home and away record in the division, picking up just 16 points from 18 games in front of their own fans, while only eight points from 20 matches on the road.

Meanwhile, Woking were edged out by Chesterfield last weekend, with Ollie Banks's penalty being the difference between the two sides.

That result puts Chesterfield level on points with the Cardinals, but Darren Sarll's side remain in third place in the standings due to having a superior goal difference.

Perhaps a cause for concern for Maidstone coming into this match is that Woking have enjoyed plenty of success on their travels this season, amassing 33 points from 19 games, which is the fourth-best away record in the league.

However, the Cardinals have been inconsistent on the road as of late, tasting defeat in their most recent away trip at Oldham Athletic.

In their five away outings before that, Sarll's men recorded two wins, two losses and one draw, but the Cardinals will be quietly confident about getting a positive result on their travels this weekend against the side with the worst home record in the division.

Team News

Maidstone made two changes to the side against Maidenhead to the one that was beaten on penalties by Barnet in the FA Trophy the weekend prior, so George Elokobi could shuffle the pack again here.

Roarie Deacon missed the defeat to Maidenhead due to injury, so Regan Booty could take his place once again in the engine room.

James Alabi started up top for the Stones last weekend after Jack Barham's move to Aldershot Town, so we are expecting the former to lead the line again this Saturday.

As for the visitors, Darren Sarll kept his 16-strong Cardinals identical against Chesterfield from the side that was victorious against Maidenhead, so he could name an unchanged side once more this weekend.

Padraig Amond has featured in every league game for Woking this campaign, so we expect him to lead the line, while Will Jaaskelainen will start between the sticks.

Maidstone United possible starting lineup:
Hadler; Binnom-Williams, Crawley, Fowler, Bone; Galvin, Booty, Corne, Luque; Alabi, Smith

Woking possible starting lineup:
Jaaskelainen; Cuthbert, Casey, Wilkinson, Moss; Ince, Hessenthaler, Kellerman; Browne, Amond, Korboa

We say: Maidstone United 0-2 Woking

Maidstone are in terrible form, and we think Woking will extend their winless run this weekend.

The Cardinals are the fifth-highest scorers in the division so we think they will have too much firepower for Maidstone here.
