Manchester City's new signings shine as Erling Braut Haaland scores a hat-trick and Julian Alvarez nets twice in a 6-0 hammering of Nottingham Forest.

Erling Braut Haaland scored a first-half hat-trick and Julian Alvarez helped himself to a brace as Manchester City's new signings shone in a 6-0 hammering of newly-promoted Nottingham Forest this evening.

The champions made light work of their opponents at the Etihad Stadium, maintaining their unbeaten start to the campaign in style with a convincing show inspired by Haaland's record-breaking goalscoring feats.

The Norway international secured back-to-back hat-tricks in the Premier League within 40 minutes of kickoff, breaking the record for most goals scored by a player in his opening five games in the competition in the process.

Haaland now has nine goals in his first five English top-flight outings, surpassing the previous record held by Micky Quinn and Man City legend Sergio Aguero.

The 22-year-old also now has two hat-tricks in his opening five Premier League games - the previous record for fewest games to score two hat-tricks was 21 games, held by Demba Ba - while his nine goals in August means that he has already scored more Premier League goals in that particular month than Harry Kane.

The goals were then shared around after the break, with Joao Cancelo making it 4-0 courtesy of a thunderous strike from the edge of the box five minutes into the second half.

Alvarez then capped off the scoring with two goals in 22 minutes to leave Pep Guardiola's side on 13 points from a possible 15.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, suffered their third defeat of the season and remain on four points after five games.
