Melbourne Victory strike late to defeat Melbourne City

A last-minute goal from Besart Berisha earns Melbourne Victory a 3-2 victory over Melbourne City in the A-League.

Melbourne Victory have moved to the top of the A-League table after Besart Berisha earned the club a 3-2 win against Melbourne City.

After a relatively quiet opening, Victory went in front in the 23rd minute thanks to Fahid Ben Khalfallah, whose deflected effort deceived Thomas Sorensen and found the corner.

Guilherme Finkler almost made it two with a fierce drive, but it would take until 57 minutes for the lead to be doubled, with Ben Khalfallah providing the cross for Kosta Barbarouses to head home.

Victory appeared to be in control, but City stunned their rivals with two goals in the space of three minutes to get back on level terms.

Firstly, Bruno Fornaroli slid the ball past the goalkeeper from eight yards, before Aaron Mooy played in Stefan Mauk, who broke clear of the defence before clipping his effort into the net.

Back up the other end, Sorensen had to be alert to keep out Berisha, but on 90 minutes, the Dane was helpless to prevent him from converting a Connor Pain cross to give Victory all three points.
